Europe Europe does not have many animals, but the ones it does have, have unique methods of staying warm. Since Europe is mainly composed of cold, frigid Alps, keeping warm is essential for the survival of all the Alpine animals. The Chamois, Wolverines, Alpine Long-Eared bats, and several more! Many animals from Europe are small weisel-like animals, such as the Pine Marten, Marbeled Polecat, and the European Mink.

The Pine Marten
This little guy is a little more vicious then he looks...even though they're so
small they usually feast on squirrels, birds, and bird eggs. These foods are
pretty easy to find in the woodland forests where these guys live, along with
their relatives, the otter, the stoat, and the badger.

Wolverine
You may not have known these were real, but here they are, they are real!
Wolverines are carnivorous and they aren't as friendly as they may look...
Wolverines like cold environments, so if you live near a desert you don't have
much worry about! But as scary as they can be they are slowly becoming
more, and more endangered since the 19th century and are near extinction.

Puffin
You may recognize him from the side of books, but this isn't just any other puffin
that you might find a the side of a book, this is a real Puffin. They're about ten
inches tall, and actually really good flyers, they can flap their wings 55 MPH!
In the Spring and Summer Puffins lay one egg, and unlike most species, both
parents take turns guarding it, and once its hatched both parents also take turns
feeding the chick.

European Lynx
This little fellow has been much luckier then the European Wolf and the European Bear,
but it is still endangered. Lynx have amazing features, for example they can spot a
mouse from 250 ft. away, and the little tufts of fur on their ears help aid their hearing,
their big paws serve as snowshoes for them in the winter, and their fur coat keeps them
warm in the winter. Lynx are great hunters and use these skills to their advantage.

Alpine Long-Eared Bat
This Bat was discovered in 1965 as a mix between a Grey Long Eared Bat and a
Brown Long Eared Bat. However in 2001 and 2002 it we discovered that it was
actually a mix between many different varieties of European bats, and it isn't just
from the alps it was also discovered to be from parts of Croatia. And we still don't
know everything about this wonderful animals of Europe.

Raccoon Dog
Not exactly a dog and not exactly a raccoon, what are they? Well the answer is they're
an invasive species! The Raccoon dog is more of a fox then a raccoon or a dog,
because although it looks like a raccoon on the outside it has the skull of a South
American Fox!
Raccoon dogs are nocturnal, but they have been seen outside in the day a few times.
One of the reasons they are nocturnal is because, Raccoon foxes are actually very weak!
Making it harder for them to escape predators.

European Mink
European Minks like rivers, and a they are great swimmers too. they have webbed feet to
help them swim around, and eat mostly fish. other then fish they also eat some kinds of
rodents if fish is to hard to find. Fish and other food can be hard to find, so many
European minks die because of competition for food. But that's not how they started being
endangered, the started being endangered when humans used to hunt them for their warm
fuzzy fur.

Norwegian Lemming
Lemming are born blind, but they gain eyesight as they mature. Once females reach up to
14 days they start reproduce litters of up to twelve lemming per month, if a Lemming isn't
reproducing it's eating or sleeping! Lemmings sleep every two hours, and eat in between
sleep time. Lemming eat bark, leaves, grass, berries, moss, and a few other things.

European Bison
Also known as "Wisent" or "Zubr" the European Bison has been one of the most
amazing animals in history. This magnificent animal has made a huge comeback
from almost being extinct. In the 18th century the bison were extinct in all
european countries, at the time including Czechoslovakia, all but Poland and Caucasia,
but all good things must come to an end. In 1919 the last wild European bison was
shot, and in 1925 the last Caucasus bison was shot. After 1925 there were only 54
European bison were left in existence only in zoos and small private parks.
Male Bison are larger than Female ones, but both of them
have small horns.

Ladoga Seal
The Ladoga seal is one of the three sub-species of the Baltic ringed seal. It is the smallest of
the three sub-species of the Baltic Seal. Ladoga seals reach sexual maturity at a fairly young age,
considering how old they get, Ladoga seals get to 30 or so years old and reach sexual maturity
around age six. when they have their cubs in February or March Ladoga seals will only nurse
them from 1 or 2 months

Camargue Horses
Camargue Horses are also known as the horse of the sea. They are calm, and develop
strong bonds with their riders. They will swim, canter, trot, gallop, splash, wrestle, and
of course walk their way through pretty much anything. They can be found in Camargue,
where they eat grass. The feeding habits of these horses depends on how much food
there is, if food is plentiful they will only eat until it gets dark outside, if it isn't they may
eat 22 hours a day!

Saiga
The first thing you may notice is this animals nose. Saiga's have proboscis noses that
hang over their mouth. The purpose of this nose is to allow the very cold air of winter to
circulate around inside their nose before going to the lungs, so it gets warm. Saiga's
used to thrive before the 1990's when poaching started becoming a big problem. Saiga's
can also be found in parts of Asia like Mongolia, and Kazakhstan. herds that live in
Kazakhstan migrate to Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan during the winter.

Roe Deer
Roe's are a kind of deer. Males and females tend to look pretty much the same except males are a
bit bigger. They only live a short amount of time, which makes mating very important. During the
mating season bucks get very territorial and usually mark their territory around a few females.
This process is very competitive and bucks get in fights which can result in serious injury or death.
The Roe have been successful in maintaining their population numbers. Although at one point they
were a bit over hunted, they're come back was noted when they started appearing in Scotland.

Reindeer
You may know reindeer as the fuzzy deer that pull around Santa's slay all Christmas long, and get the rest
of the year off in the north pole. Well, that's all wrong. In fact there aren't even reindeer in the north pole!
However, in Santa's defense reindeer did used to live all over the world, but they were hunted down pretty
much everywhere but Iceland. Reindeer hunting does occur in Iceland, except if you have a permit and can
only do it during the open season. But why not just ban reindeer hunting altogether, I mean after all, there are
only 3,000 reindeer let in the wild! The reason is because they let reindeer reproduce without stopping them,
then the reindeer will eat all the grass, and there will be no food left for the most important Icelandic farm animals,
sheep!

Arctic Fox
Arctic Foxes are very special. For starters they happen to be the only domestic wild animals in
Iceland! There is even a farmer who used to have baby ones in eastern Iceland! Arctic foxes have
also been around a very long time. They were one of the only animals in Iceland to be there before
and after the Vikings. You may be wondering what their secret to success is, well here it is...The
Arctic Fox is actually very shy. Being so shy they do not come out of their homes very often, and
only come out when they have to, so the don't get eaten by predators very often.

Karakurt Spider
The Karakurt is one of the 10 most dangerous spiders in the whole world, they live
in Moscow, Russia. However during they only live there during the summer when they perform there migration, to places such as, Moscow. Even though they are
only in Moscow during the summer, the Astrakhan Region people may be better off than people
living in the Moscow Region because these spiders are particularly active on summer nights.
After being bitten by one of these you will most likely experience a small pain, but after 15
minutes-6 hours intense pain will spread through your muscles, chest, limbs, etc. This is definitely
one of those spiders that if you even think you've been bitten by you should immedietly call a doctor.
If you see one in your house definitely call professional help IMMEDIATELY.

Wild Boar
This is the wild boar. Seeing a picture of the wild boar like this one is rare. This picture is of
a female who is with her offspring. You may know that these animals are even more aggressive
than bears because they will always charge. Females like this one are also incredibly
protective of their offspring, so if she were to have woken up while this picture was being taken,
we would have had bad news for the camera man...Boars are known to kill humans,
experienced hunters rarely ever shoot one with the single shot that they have time for while the
boar is charging. Even though they weigh 200 kilograms (441 lbs) their main killer is not their
crushing weight, but their tusks which they use to gore people.

Marbled Polecat
Marbled polecats are very hiper little critters. They are active during the day and during the night
always scurring about and digging dens. They have weak eyesight, so it is harder for them to see
during the day as well as during the night, which gives them all the more reason to be constantly
moving and digging safe dens. Like humans, marbled polecats compensate for bad eyesight with
amazing sense of smell. Humans with bad eyesight usually have great sense of hearing, or smell.

European Badger
The Badger family is divided into 11 species of badger. Each species belongs to one of three subfamilies, Taxideinae, Mellivorinae, or Melinae, the nine species of euroasian badgers are in the Melinae subfamily.
